Therapeutic conversations are a way of talking that can validate, explore, and re-frame the problems that people are facing. Each problem is at the same time completely unique to an individual, and similar in that it is causing distance between the person and their preferred life. Often problems, and the experience of a problem is assigned a meaning that further estranges someone from the values that are important to them.
Through these conversations I can assist people in gaining some space from these problems, which helps them find their own new perspectives towards their concerns. This work can often show that the problem does not exist entirely within a person, but also has contributions from history, family, and society.
In the fast pace of our society, it can be difficult for people to find the time and energy to talk about the important issues facing them, which is part of the reason I believe in keeping therapy client-centred and oriented towards attainable goals, so that people can go back as soon as possible to spending more time in ways that add value to their lives.
